Peter Wickwire representing the Chester IOD class won the 14 race Bermuda Race Week IOD series. The regatta hosted by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club ran from May 3rd to May 9th in the Great Sound with 13 boats in the fleet with skippers from Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, USA, Bermuda and Canada.  Weather conditions varied during the week with winds blowing 25 knots to 5 knots providing daily challenges to all the participants.

Peter who had been sailing Mighty Mo during the past summer in Chester proved he had learned how to sail these boats with an impressive week of sailing.  He won 7 races of the 13 races he sailed and declined to sail the final race as he had already wrapped up the series by an eventual margin of 36 points.  Second in the series was Henry Arnald from Great Britain and third was J.P. Roed from Norway. This is a first for the Chester fleet and a first for a Canadian to win the prestigious Vrengin Cup as the overall winner of the IOD Class in Bermuda Race Week. Peter’s crew consisted of Greg Lawrence and Matthew Carney, both from Nova Scotia and Rick Echard from New Hampshire.
